For the first two years of Greyduck's existence, it was a company run out of my house. With that came some awesomeness - working til 4pm in my PJ's here and there, being able to be around when the kids were leaving and returning from school, easy access to food when I was hungry. The little things.
It also came with headaches. I was constantly running around to our storage unit to pick-up boards for delivery and digging through my garage or basement for random items I needed. I also had no defined space where I could consistently get work done.
In December, we embarked on a journey to find a spot where everything could be consolidated into a single location with a workspace I could call my own. If everything went well, my productivity would increase and it would be worth the added investment.
To say that finding a space was interesting would be an understatement. We've rented other industrial space in the past without too much difficulty. This time was a different story. Some spots were too far away, others too big. Or too small. Or too expensive. Or required a 5 year lease agreement.
In the end, we landed on a space in Maplewood (sandwiched in between Little Canada and St. Paul), just off of Interstate 35E and Hwy 36. It's a small space, but has an office area, a little storage, and warehouse space too. It was a little rough to start, so we spent a few weekends doing demo, replacing some flooring and painting the walls. It's starting to feel like home. Thanks to my family for the elbow grease in transforming the space - it wouldn't have happened without you!
My hope is that this more central location will be a better spot for our dealers to find us should they want to meet or pick-up boards. It's a great work spot for me. If you're in the area and want to stop-in and learn more about us, please give me call and I'll make sure to be around.
